Then, how would you describe such an event?
Quite simply actually. I’d ask myself a question and then reply with a best effort description of how I feel and think about the subject at hand!?
Q: In one word, how would you describe yourself?
A: Stubborn.
Q: As in?
A: One word only remember.
Q: OK, so why do you see yourself as stubborn?
A: For one it’s self-evident that I tend to be stubborn.
Q: How so?
A1: First of course I could say that’s what people tend to tell me in their dealings with me.
A2: Second, I do indeed tend to stick to my own views (not at gunpoint though), because I base mine on experience and fact as the de facto way to confirm the first.
A3: Third: Stubborn translates into my native tongue as “eigenwijs”, which roughly translates as: Going one’s own way.
^ Sinatra sings it best when he sings: “I did it my way” though.
Q: Why?
A: Why not?
Q: Please explain how you see this?
A1: If one were to never think for oneself and follow one’s own thoughts to conclusion, then one could be considered as an automaton. Automatons obey orders without questioning those. I’m human and not a robot.
A2: It also puts what other people tell you how they feel, and often as a consequence why they think you should to, about this or that into perspective.
Q: Why?
A: First, let me separate two views right here:
1: At the one hand we have stubbornness as the biggest deal breaker between two or more people. Not because they can’t see eye to eye. Quite the contrary actually, but because the both of them can’t seem to progress without the other ‘admitting’ defeat. ![]()
2: On the other we see a person who bases his believes on what he has previously experienced/encountered in life, and as a consequence tries to walk his path in the best way he sees fit. *pothole alert, whoops*
I prefer the latter as an ‘evolved’ version of the first and if I were (asked) to describe myself and act accordingly (I owe myself that much) then I tend to favor the latter as well.
Q: So basically you’re saying: I’m a know it all, who has seen troubles no one else has before and therefore what I say always goes!?
A: Nah, not really I tend to be quite aware of my own flaws and shortcomings. Wouldn’t want to have it any other way though, because it tends to keep one’s feet on the ground.
Q: Do you actually listen to what the people you encounter in life tell/teach you?
A: If and only if, what’s said piques my interest! Also I’m not capable of lifting myself up by my hair alone, no.
Q: Yeah, but do you “listen”?
A: If you mean by this. Do I follow orders or do things your way simply because you told me to do so? Then my answer is a definite _NO_. Did you actually listen to what I have/had to say (for example all text up to this point)? If your answer is no, then how could you or why would you even expect this from me, if even you won’t do the same???
Now let me ask You the same question:
How do You view yourself?
Whereas I’m going to end this post with:
“I may not be always right, but I’m never wrong…”
Kindest regards,
PS: My words are my own, my actions are my own. Everything I wrote and did in this post are my own responsibility. All I’m offering is: YAP!
